Post Work-out Do’s and Dont’s

Working out in any form can be strenuous on the body. Whether you are going on a long walk, running, or lifting weights, you want to ensure you are taking care of your body. After your workout is just as important as during your workout.

Do Hydrate

It is so important to rehydrate after your workout. Workouts involve sweating and exerting a lot of energy. It is advised to drink at least 8 ounces of water no more than 30 minutes after a workout.

Do Stretch

Stretching after a workout is important to relieve any tension or stress on your muscles. People like to skip over stretching as it's easy to forget about; but even 2 minutes of stretching can help prevent injuries and loosen up your muscles.

Don't Stay in Your Workout Clothes

It is tempting to stay in your workout clothes, especially if you didn't sweat that much. But, by staying in your workout clothes you are providing a breeding ground for bacteria. Hop into the shower to ensure your body is clean.

Do Eat Protein

To help replenish your muscles, it is best to consume protein. Foods such as fish, lean meats, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and yogurt can help build your muscles.

Don't Smoke or Drink Alcohol

It is important to fuel your body after a workout. Smoking and drinking can cause negative health effects. Smoking narrows your arteries over time, which can make it more difficult for oxygen to reach your muscles.
