Mommy and Me: The Art of Balancing it All

Motherhood deserves more than just one day in May to be celebrated. The demands of being a mom are extensive, and that doesn’t even include the work a mother has to do for themselves. It can seem impossible at times to fit time in for one’s own meals or workouts between driving to school, preparing meals, and all the little tasks that always seem to be coming up. I sat down with @plantsandflours, a health and recipe blogger who is also the mother of a three year old to ask how she balances it all.

At Home Workouts Can be Playtime Too

Bring the whole family together for a workout! When working out at home, we recommend bringing your bundle of joy to workout too. Come stocked with snacks, toys, and or coloring activities to keep their attention piqued. Children love to mimic too, so when your child sees you engaging in physical activity they will want to as well. Light weights or stretching bands can the perfect way to get your little one involved.

Kids make the best sous chef

Baking can be therapeutic for parents as well as kids. Engaging your children in the cooking or baking process gives children a sense of accomplishment while creating something in an fun experiment type setting. While you task your child with folding in the chocolate chips or whisking all the ingredients you’re keeping them entertained while also getting your meals made!

Nap Time Prep

Try and get kids outside for at least thirty minutes a day. Outside time can be the perfect prelude to a well deserved nap. A little fresh air and sunshine really can make all the difference for a child and parent during this quarantine period. Kids can use this outside time to play and run around without even knowing they’re helping in nap time prep. We won’t tell if you don’t.

Me Time is Important Time

Parenting is a twenty-four hour seven days a week job, but taking a few moments for yourself doesn’t have to be a guilt-ridden experience. Take just ten minutes in the morning or evening to listen to your favorite song or podcasts, take a walk around the block, drink a glass of wine, or save the last piece of cake for you.  Trust us, you deserve it.
