2020 has not been a normal year by any means. The pandemic has pushed us towards a new normal, making us adapt to new situations and experiences. In addition to the pandemic, the 2020 election has been happening this week. A lot is at stake from the result of this election. As we get closer to a final result we have some ideas to keep yourself calm.  Follow our tips to reduce stress.

Engage in Activities

Whether it is a simple walk outside or yoga stretches in your bedroom, keep your body moving to feel positive  effects. Aerobic exercise has been shown to release endorphins in your body, essentially boosting your mood.

Deep Breaths

If you practice deep breathing for at least 5 minutes a day, it can help lower your blood pressure and stress levels. Deep breathing engages your abdomen, so inhale in through your nose and exhale out  through your mouth.

Essential Oils

Scents can have a strong effect on your mood. Essential oils are derived from plants and have been seen to directly affect the brain’s emotion-controlling zones. Scents such as eucalyptus and peppermint can provide a sense of calming.

Reduce Your Caffeine Intake

No one wants to hear this, but increased anxiety and stress could be correlated with heavy caffeine intake. Try replacing your everyday coffee with decaf tea or coffee. Caffeine is a strong stimulant that people forget about, because it is so ingrained in everyday routine. You can also try matcha tea to help reduce your stress levels. Matcha has been used Japanese medicine to help people relax and heal.

Fuel Your Body

What goes into your body feeds your brain and heart. Overindulgence in tobacco, sweets and alcohol can be a temporary fix to a stressful day or night, but can actually end up making you feel worse. Eat in a balanced way, filled with nutritious foods to help combat stress. Fuel yourself with the best to feel your best!

Never hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or professionals if you need support to help manage your stress levels.
