5 Tips to Help You Unwind Before Bed
Are you spending a lot of your pandemic at home? It can be challenging to unwind at night before you go to bed. Sleep is crucial for your overall health and restores our vibrance and joy in our daily lives.
Decrease Your Screen Time
Technology has become a huge part of our day in navigating these unusual times. It has been multiplied through Corona. The blue light that is projected from your technology can signal your brain to stay awake and alert longer. So before bed is the time to put down the phone or laptop to ensure that your mind begins to relax.
Early Day Exercise
To ensure your mind isn’t racing before bed, plan your workout for earlier in the day. When you work out and exert a lot of your energy at night, your body could be buzzing from an endorphin high right before bed, keeping you awake. For late-evening exercise, try restorative yoga or gentle stretches.
Practice Breathing
It’s often hard to channel your mind into a place of rest. If your brain focuses on one thing right before bed, it can try and block out the other stressors you may be experiencing. Practice breathing and focus on your breath to return your thoughts to center.
Make Sure Your Space Is Clutter-Free
Whether you are a generally neat person or don’t mind a misplaced book or two, clutter is a nightmare. When your belongings are scattered about, it may be difficult to fully relax and wind down. A study from 2015 found that people who live in a more cluttered bedroom experienced higher rates of disordered sleeping.
Sip on Caffeine-Free Tea
A warm cup of tea before bed provides a sense of comfort that is welcomed. If you drink a non-caffeinated green tea you can reap the other benefits besides being a warm comforting beverage. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and vitamins that can help calm inflammation and help gut health.
